Warfel Construction Company announces that ENR (Engineering News Record) has named the LEED Gold Certified Sipprelle Field House at St. Andrew’s School the Best Sports/Entertainment Project in the Mid-Atlantic. Warfel served as construction manager on the $11 million project in Middletown, DE. Designed by Philadelphia firm, Voith & Mactavish Architects, the project included a 52,000 sq. ft. field house addition designed to complement the historic adjoining Cameron Gymnasium while providing the newest in sports technology and green design and construction elements. The field house boasts a three-court subterranean gymnasium (taking advantage of natural thermal efficiencies), an on-grade running track above with views of the surrounding fields, and a greatly expanded weight and fitness center. The field house also houses new locker room facilities and a new athletic trainer’s office. An independent jury selected winners of ENR’s 2012 ‘Best Projects’ competition in the Mid-Atlantic region, an annual program recognizing the region’s best achievements in design and construction. The projects will be honored in a special Mid-Atlantic edition of ENR in December and during an awards ceremony in Baltimore, MD. The jury focused on projects that overcame significant challenges; adopted innovative approaches; executed exceptional design and craftsmanship; and maintained safe sites. All category winners advance to the national judging of ENR’s Best Projects competition.
