Warfel Construction Company recently began construction on the expansion and renovation of the Science Center at Westtown School in West Chester, PA.
The expansion includes the construction of a new three-story, 16,300 square foot wing that will house classrooms and laboratories for the Physics, Ecology, Biology, and Chemistry departments. The $7.3 million construction – part of a larger $13 million project, also includes renovations to the existing 20,000 square foot building featuring dedicated space to the school’s award winning Robotics program. Designed by SMP Architects of Philadelphia, the LEED Silver certified science center will feature sustainable elements such as a rain water cistern, a daylight harvesting lighting system which regulates lighting based upon the incoming natural light, and a rain screen veneer to help prevent heat gain and reduce cooling costs. The project is scheduled for completion in November of 2013. Serving as Construction Manager, Warfel also provided preconstruction services including estimating, budget analysis, scheduling, and constructibility reviews prior to the start of construction. Warfel Project Manager Tony Vilk and Field Superintendent Dave Marks, both of Lancaster, will oversee the project.
Established in 1911, Warfel Construction Company provides general construction and construction management services to clients throughout the mid-Atlantic states.
