Project Engineer – Paoli, PA

Warfel Construction Company seeks a motivated and energetic Project Engineer to join our dynamic, team-oriented organization in Paoli, PA. Ideal candidates will be proactive and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. As a Project Engineer, you will work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents, managing daily tasks, facilitating communication between internal and external team members, and overseeing submittal reviews and processing.

This role requires frequent weekly jobsite visits to ensure effective project oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain daily communication with the jobsite supervisor and Field Engineer via phone and site visits to discuss project updates, concerns, and issues. Frequent jobsite visits are required based on project status and client needs.
  • Prepare change orders in Procore Construction Software, updating purchase orders and contract amounts for subcontractors.
  • Manage project procurement by drafting scope sheets and negotiating with vendors, as directed by the Senior/Project Manager.
  • Review and approve RFIs generated by the Field Engineer, or create and distribute RFI questions and responses as needed.
  • Prepare and submit materials for architect/engineer review and approval in Procore, ensuring compliance with specifications. You may delegate some submittal reviews to the Field Engineer and track their progress.
  • Monitor returned submittals and track any required follow-up based on comments.
  • Conduct bi-weekly subcontractor meetings and pre-installation meetings, preparing meeting agendas.
  • Prepare meeting minutes for Project Manager review, and assist in reviewing subcontractor meeting minutes drafted by the Field Engineer.
  • Additional tasks may arise based on project contracts or client requirements.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1–2 years of construction management experience, ideally working on projects from start to finish (duration may vary depending on project schedule).
  • Experience as a Field Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse, multi-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively.

Foreman – Paoli, PA

Warfel Construction Company is looking for a full-time Jobsite Foreman to join our team. In this role, you will assist Superintendents and the internal project team with daily tasks such as coordinating subcontractors, reviewing material deliveries, ensuring the quality of installations, and managing documentation requirements on the jobsite. Depending on your experience and preferences, you may also take on the responsibility of running your own project. You will report directly to the site Superintendent and receive oversight from the Director of Field Operations.

Travel Requirements:
You may need to travel daily to projects within a 0–120-mile radius. If you agree to travel beyond the required radius, you will be eligible for a salary premium based on the distance.

Major Responsibilities:
Your daily responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Daily Coordination: You will review jobsite needs with the supervisor and determine how to assist in tracking, managing, or checking progress on various tasks.
  • Plan Interpretation: You will read and interpret project plans and specifications, analyzing construction methods and scheduling to ensure the work progresses according to plan.
  • Safety Management: You will promote and enforce a culture of safety on the jobsite, ensuring everyone follows safe work practices. You will address jobsite hazards immediately and ensure compliance with safety procedures for Warfel employees, subcontractors, and visitors. You will also ensure that safety personnel conduct regular inspections and reviews.
  • Document Management: You will manage all new contract documents, ensuring that file locations and paper copies are up to date onsite, whether in electronic or paper form.
  • Shop Drawing Reviews: You will review shop drawings and submittals from subcontractors, as well as field measurements, to verify that design requirements are met before materials are fabricated.
  • Material Procurement: You will purchase miscellaneous jobsite materials, hardware, and supplies as authorized by the Superintendent and Project Manager.
  • Vendor Coordination: You will assist the site supervisor in managing vendor activities, ensuring adherence to delivery schedules, and taking appropriate action if any delays occur. You will document any issues that arise.
  • Material Delivery Verification: You will review material deliveries brought by subcontractors, verifying them against approved submittals and contract documents. You will maintain a delivery log to track these materials.
  • Internal and External Communication: You will communicate with the project team as needed, preparing notes and photos to confirm phone conversations, request information, document issues, and verify delivery dates.
  • Photo Documentation: You will take routine photographs of jobsite progress and file them accordingly. You will follow QC labeling requirements when documenting progress.
  • Quality Control: You will supervise the workmanship onsite to ensure that the installed work complies with project drawings, specifications, and Warfel’s quality standards. You may perform inspections or assist the site supervisor in reviewing work and completing QA/QC documentation.
  • Completion and Punchlist Documentation: You will assist with completion lists and punchlist documentation for site close-out activities, working with the superintendent and project team to finalize.
  • Tool Use: You may be required to use tools to assist with installing work as needed.
  • Other Duties: You will perform other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or project team.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in the construction industry, with a proven ability to manage others.
  • No formal education required, but a solid construction background and training are essential.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing: You will spend approximately 95% of your time standing.
  • Sitting: You will sit for about 5% of your time.
  • Walking: You will walk frequently, changing positions and locations on the jobsite.
  • Lifting: You may need to lift and carry materials weighing no more than 50 lbs. The frequency varies depending on the work at hand, but equipment will be available for assistance.
  • Pushing and Pulling: Depending on work needs, you will push or pull materials weighing no more than 50 lbs, with equipment available for assistance.
  • Climbing: You may need to climb ladders, scaffolds, or other objects in multi-story buildings while carrying tools and equipment.
  • Bending and Kneeling: You will need to bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl as appropriate for the job.
  • Working at Heights: You will work at heights as necessary, using safety equipment such as scaffolds, aerial lifts, and personal fall protection.

Superintendent – Paoli, PA

Warfel Construction is actively seeking a Construction Superintendent to join our team at our Paoli, PA office. As the Superintendent, you will directly oversee all phases of construction at the project site, ensuring successful completion within the required budget and schedule while maintaining excellent quality. You will also uphold strict adherence to all Warfel safety rules and regulations, including site-specific requirements.

Work Schedule & Requirements:

You will work Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break. Occasionally, you may need to work on Saturdays or put in overtime. Travel to and from the jobsite varies, so you must have reliable transportation. You must also adapt to ever-changing work environments, including varying weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

Your main duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Project Planning and Execution: You will read and interpret project plans and specifications, analyze construction methods, and schedule work to ensure it follows proper sequencing.
  • Safety Leadership: You will promote a culture of jobsite safety and enforce safe work practices. You will immediately address jobsite hazards and ensure all safety procedures are followed by Warfel employees, subcontractors, and visitors. Additionally, you will ensure safety personnel conduct regular inspections and reviews.
  • Empowering Team Members: You will lead by empowering employees to prioritize safety, conducting weekly Toolbox Talks to reinforce this culture.
  • Communication and Coordination: You will maintain detailed Daily Logs to document all work onsite. You will create 3-week lookahead schedules, assist project management staff with overall schedule updates, and proactively communicate upcoming work to subcontractors, vendors, and clients to keep the project on track.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Management: You will manage direct contact with trade subcontractors and vendors to schedule deliveries and manpower. If any issues arise, you will notify project management staff to address potential delays.
  • Collaboration with Internal Teams: You will work closely with the Director of Field Operations, Foreman, and Project Manager to discuss Warfel manpower needs, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they arrive on time.
  • Project Quality Control: You will establish and maintain dimensional controls for the project and supervise subcontractors to ensure their work complies with project drawings and specifications, meeting Warfel’s high quality standards.
  • Managing Changes: You will review shop drawings submitted by subcontractors and ensure that materials are fabricated according to design requirements. You will also ensure that no extra work or deviations from the contract documents occur without proper authorization from the Project Manager.
  • Client Interaction: You will meet with client representatives to discuss the project’s status, identify any areas of concern, and collaborate with Project Management staff to relay important information to the client.
  • Staff Management: You will supervise Warfel field labor, make recommendations for promotions and terminations, and provide performance evaluations for staff as requested.

Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, you need a minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience on commercial construction projects. You must have a strong construction background and formal training.

Physical Requirements:

You will spend 80% of your time on an active construction site, moving frequently throughout uneven terrain and working in inclement weather.

Occasionally, you will move around the office to access file cabinets, manage copiers, and other office materials. You will also regularly operate a computer and office machinery, such as a calculator, telephone, copy machine, or printer.

Additional Physical Considerations:

  • You will frequently communicate with internal and external clients to exchange accurate information.
  • You may occasionally need to lift or move materials up to 50 lbs.
  • You may need to operate equipment and work at heights, using safety equipment such as ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, and personal fall protection.
  • You will occasionally climb ladders and scaffolds while carrying tools and equipment.
