Key Responsibilities

  • Risk Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments, particularly with subcontracts, and create detailed scopes of work. Manage procurement processes for subcontracts and materials.
  • Cost Management: Prepare monthly cost projections and analyses, ensuring cost efficiency and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Documentation and Communication: Review RFIs and submittals prepared by Project Engineers or Field Engineers. Communicate proactively with subcontractors and suppliers to address any issues or concerns.
  • Site Oversight: Attend job site meetings and monitor project progress. Ensure smooth communication among all parties involved, including owners, architects, superintendents, and subcontractors.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • A minimum of a four-year degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in construction management, including roles such as Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager.
  • Proven expertise in client relationship management, budget management, scheduling, and team leadership.
  • Strong communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and multitasking ability.
  • Ability to visit active job sites frequently and navigate uneven terrain in all weather conditions. Some lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be required.

Project Engineer – State College, PA

Warfel Construction Company is seeking a motivated and energetic Project Engineer to join our dynamic, team-oriented organization in State College, PA. Ideal candidates will be proactive and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. As a Project Engineer, you will work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents, managing daily tasks, facilitating communication between internal and external team members, and overseeing submittal reviews and processing.

This role requires frequent jobsite visits throughout the week to ensure effective project oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain daily communication with the jobsite supervisor and Field Engineer via phone and site visits to discuss project updates, concerns, and issues. Frequent jobsite visits are required based on project status and client needs.
  • Prepare change orders in Procore Construction Software, updating purchase orders and contract amounts for subcontractors.
  • Manage project procurement by drafting scope sheets and negotiating with vendors, as directed by the Senior/Project Manager.
  • Review and approve RFIs generated by the Field Engineer, or create and distribute RFI questions and responses as needed.
  • Prepare and submit materials for architect/engineer review and approval in Procore, ensuring compliance with specifications. You may delegate some submittal reviews to the Field Engineer and track their progress.
  • Monitor returned submittals and track any required follow-up based on comments.
  • Conduct bi-weekly subcontractor meetings and pre-installation meetings, preparing meeting agendas.
  • Prepare meeting minutes for Project Manager review, and assist in reviewing subcontractor meeting minutes drafted by the Field Engineer.
  • Additional tasks may arise based on project contracts or client requirements.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1–2 years of construction management experience, ideally working on projects from start to finish (duration may vary depending on project schedule).
  • Experience as a Field Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse, multi-functional teams.

Foreman – State College, PA

Warfel Construction Company is seeking a full-time Jobsite Foreman to support our projects in the State College area. In this role, you will assist Superintendents and the internal project team with daily operations, including coordinating subcontractors, overseeing material deliveries, ensuring quality installation, and managing various jobsite documentation requirements. Depending on experience and preference, you may also have the opportunity to manage your own project.

This position reports directly to the Site Superintendent and receives oversight from the Director of Field Operations.

Travel Requirements:

  • Daily travel to projects within a 0–120-mile radius may be required.
  • If you’re willing to travel beyond the standard radius, a salary premium will be available based on the additional distance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review daily job site needs with the supervisor and define how they assist in tracking, managing, or checking progressing items.
  • Reads and interprets project plans and specifications and analyzes construction methods and scheduling for details and sequences of work.
  • Promotes a culture of jobsite safety and demands safe work practices from everyone onsite. Rectifies jobsite hazards immediately and ensures that all safety procedures are adhered to by Warfel employees, subcontractor employees, and visitors. Assures that designated safety personnel conduct regular safety inspections and reviews.
  • Manages all new contract documents and keeps all file locations/paper copies updated with the latest documents onsite, either electronically or on paper.
  • Check shop drawings and submittals submitted by subcontractors and field measurements to confirm design requirements are met before materials are fabricated.
  • Purchases miscellaneous jobsite materials, rough hardware, and supplies as authorized by the Superintendent and Project Manager.
  • Assists the site supervisor with vendor activity to ensure adherence to delivery dates and completion of field activities. If schedules are not being met, take appropriate action to document the issue.
  • Review material deliveries by subcontractors and verify them against approved submittals and contract documents. Track the delivery log.
  • Communicates internally and externally as requested by the project team. Prepares notes and photos for subcontractors for various reasons, e.g., to confirm phone conversations, request information, document issues, verify delivery dates, etc.
  • Routine photographic documentation of progress onsite. Files accordingly. Follows QC labeling requirements
  • Supervises workmanship onsite to ensure installed work complies with drawings and specifications and meets Warfel standards. Performs inspections of installed materials or assists site supervisor with review and completes documentation of QA/QC reports.
  • Performs completion lists and punch list documentation for site close-out activities as reviewed with the superintendent and project team.
  • May be required to work with their tools to help install work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in the construction industry and a proven aptitude for managing others are required.
  • No formal education is required. Must have construction background and training.

Carpenter – State College, PA

We are looking for a Construction Carpenter to join our team in State College, PA! This role will report directly to the jobsite Foreman or Superintendent and requires strict adherence to all Warfel safety rules and regulations, including any site-specific necessities.

Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, beginning at 7:00 AM through 3:30 PM with a 30-minute lunch. Occasional Saturday work and overtime may be required. Travel to and from the jobsite varies; reliable transportation is required.

 

Key Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Fit and install prefabricated window frames, doors, HM door frames (knock down and welded), weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware.
  • Install, align, and embed miscellaneous metal and specialty items, such as handrails, bearing plates, lintels, fire extinguishers, bathroom accessories, and various other tasks.
  • Erect scaffolding and ladders for work on structures above ground level
  • Use of appropriate hand tools. Building layout, wood & metal framing, layout and installation of blocking, installing cabinets, and trim and casing.
  • Perform a variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools, such as selective demo, sawing lumber, dismantling forms, removing projections from concrete, and cut and attach insulating material.
  • Will be required to assist other carpenters or Warfel employees in performing their duties.
  • They may be required to operate hand and power tools, company equipment, and vehicles.
  • Ability to supply basic tools required for the position (such as tool box, hammer, nail bag, etc). A full list will be provided during interviews.
  • Needs to have a commitment to safety and keeping the work area neat and clean

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High school or equivalent, technical school or college experience
  • Ability to use and read a tape measure with precise standards and accuracy
  • Understanding of prints, sketches, blueprints, and building plans with minimal instruction for performing layout, framing, and assembly
  • Completion of an Apprenticeship Program in the carpentry trade, or equivalent experience/knowledge
  • Excellent communication, organization, and people skills, with proven success working in team environments
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision
