Warfel Construction Company is currently looking for a Design-Build Specialist to join our Virtual Design & Coordination (VDC) team based in East Petersburg, PA. The Design-Build Specialist leads the execution of VDC deliverables across assigned design-build projects. This role takes direct responsibility for model accuracy, coordination of outcomes, schedule performance, and verification of deliverables.

The Design-Build Specialist connects design and construction through advanced modeling, coordination leadership, and proactive problem-solving. As a technical leader, they help project teams move efficiently from concept to execution. This position requires a high degree of independence, judgment, and follow-through, with measurable expectations for task completion, documentation, and performance outcomes.

Requirements

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Own the execution of assigned VDC scope on design-build projects, with responsibility for planning, completion, and validation of required deliverables in alignment with project objectives.
    • Apply Warfel’s BIM Execution Plans, Standard Operating Procedures, BIM Standards, and VDC workflows consistently, exercising judgment to interpret and apply standards appropriately to project conditions.
    • Develop and maintain 3D, 4D, and 5D models throughout design and construction. Verify model accuracy, coordination, and readiness for project use.
    • Convert early design concepts into schematic and design-development models. Confirm alignment with project budgets, schedules, and constructability goals. Escalate issues when conflicts arise.
    • Coordinate model-based constructability reviews and multidisciplinary coordination activities with design consultants, internal teams, and trade partners, taking responsibility for driving assigned coordination items to resolution.
    • Maintain accountability for model quality, organization, and level of development, confirming readiness prior to milestone submissions, coordination reviews, or downstream consumption.
    • Contribute to and, when appropriate, facilitate design charrettes, value management discussions, and client-facing model reviews within assigned scope.
    • Follow established BIM/VDC QA/QC procedures and take ownership of verifying that assigned deliverables meet quality standards before being marked complete.
    • Integrate reality capture data (e.g., LiDAR scans, drone imagery) into models as required, validating alignment with existing conditions and design documentation.
    • Identify coordination risks, constructability issues, and scope gaps within assigned responsibilities, and exercise authority to recommend solutions and next steps.
    • Document completed work, coordination status, project decisions, and lessons learned. Maintain clear records that support accountability and continuous improvement.
    • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum Associate Degree in Applied Science in Construction Management, Building Science Engineering, Architectural, or Engineering-related fields.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience as an innovative technologist in 3D Modeling and Design for the architectural, civil, or construction industry is desired.
  • Expertise in design-build processes is preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of the time.
  • May need to occasionally move around the office to access file cabinets, manage copiers and other business materials, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as an iPhone & iPad, a copy machine, or a printer.
  • Occasional need to lift or move up to 20 lbs within an office/field environment.
