Superintendent – Paoli, PA

Warfel Construction is actively seeking a Construction Superintendent to join our team at our Paoli, PA office. As the Superintendent, you will directly oversee all phases of construction at the project site, ensuring successful completion within the required budget and schedule while maintaining excellent quality. You will also uphold strict adherence to all Warfel safety rules and regulations, including site-specific requirements.

Work Schedule & Requirements:

You will work Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break. Occasionally, you may need to work on Saturdays or put in overtime. Travel to and from the jobsite varies, so you must have reliable transportation. You must also adapt to ever-changing work environments, including varying weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

Your main duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Project Planning and Execution: You will read and interpret project plans and specifications, analyze construction methods, and schedule work to ensure it follows proper sequencing.
  • Safety Leadership: You will promote a culture of jobsite safety and enforce safe work practices. You will immediately address jobsite hazards and ensure all safety procedures are followed by Warfel employees, subcontractors, and visitors. Additionally, you will ensure safety personnel conduct regular inspections and reviews.
  • Empowering Team Members: You will lead by empowering employees to prioritize safety, conducting weekly Toolbox Talks to reinforce this culture.
  • Communication and Coordination: You will maintain detailed Daily Logs to document all work onsite. You will create 3-week lookahead schedules, assist project management staff with overall schedule updates, and proactively communicate upcoming work to subcontractors, vendors, and clients to keep the project on track.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Management: You will manage direct contact with trade subcontractors and vendors to schedule deliveries and manpower. If any issues arise, you will notify project management staff to address potential delays.
  • Collaboration with Internal Teams: You will work closely with the Director of Field Operations, Foreman, and Project Manager to discuss Warfel manpower needs, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they arrive on time.
  • Project Quality Control: You will establish and maintain dimensional controls for the project and supervise subcontractors to ensure their work complies with project drawings and specifications, meeting Warfel’s high quality standards.
  • Managing Changes: You will review shop drawings submitted by subcontractors and ensure that materials are fabricated according to design requirements. You will also ensure that no extra work or deviations from the contract documents occur without proper authorization from the Project Manager.
  • Client Interaction: You will meet with client representatives to discuss the project’s status, identify any areas of concern, and collaborate with Project Management staff to relay important information to the client.
  • Staff Management: You will supervise Warfel field labor, make recommendations for promotions and terminations, and provide performance evaluations for staff as requested.

Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, you need a minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience on commercial construction projects. You must have a strong construction background and formal training.

Physical Requirements:

You will spend 80% of your time on an active construction site, moving frequently throughout uneven terrain and working in inclement weather.

Occasionally, you will move around the office to access file cabinets, manage copiers, and other office materials. You will also regularly operate a computer and office machinery, such as a calculator, telephone, copy machine, or printer.

Additional Physical Considerations:

  • You will frequently communicate with internal and external clients to exchange accurate information.
  • You may occasionally need to lift or move materials up to 50 lbs.
  • You may need to operate equipment and work at heights, using safety equipment such as ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, and personal fall protection.
  • You will occasionally climb ladders and scaffolds while carrying tools and equipment.
  • You must bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl as necessary.
