Surveyor

Warfel Construction Company has an opportunity for a full-time Surveyor. This role is largely responsible for providing layout for building construction using Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) practices. This includes knowledge of software and entry of AutoCAD files to define project parameters. It also includes working with Project Superintendents and Foreman to communicate expectations for stakeout of corners, specific feature locations, etc. Other duties will include working with project teams and with our Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) department to coordinate project details.

Major duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Reads project plans, and reviews / imports CAD files for necessary information to stakeout specific points, benchmarks, and provide layout as reviewed with Project Management Team, using surveying Ensure building closes out based on documents.
  • Updates and manages company surveying equipment to ensure it is up-to-date with industry practices and is calibrated to perform as intended.
  • Travels to project sites as schedule to perform stakeout of specific points for construction or layout of general site areas as requested by Project Management Team.
  • Coordinates with Project Superintendents and Foremen to communicate findings from layout and discuss any issues that arise as layout is performed. Uses problem solving and critical thinking skills to review potential issues.
  • Needs to know how to use a traditional transit (digital), total station (robot), and builder’s level.
  • Ensures that layout meets the intent of the contract drawings
  • Utilizes best practices for site development surveying as taught for the industry
  • Engage in self-directed, continuing professional development to keep current on industry standards
  • Coordinates with Warfel VDC to utilize BIM and Revit models in layout of items on project sites
  • Layout on jobsites is the primary duty, but when not assigned to a jobsite, will work with the VDC department assisting with CAD files and BIM files for modeling.
  • Owns responsibility to purchase all field layout supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • High school degree or GED equivalent
  • At least five (5) years’ prior experience with building layout and using transit equipment acceptable in lieu of degree
  • Ability to work within standard of accuracy and must be able to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Must complete OSHA 10-Hour training program
  • Must have a valid PA driver’s license and be informed of all regulations of the Commercial Motor Vehicle code
  • A working knowledge of carpentry is essential, as many projects and repairs include wood, metal, steel, and concrete components
  • Excellent communication, organization, and people skills, with proven success working in team environments.

 

This position spends a larger percentage of the time on an active construction site. The qualified individual for this role will need to move frequently throughout a construction jobsite with uneven terrain and in inclement weather. Some effort may be required in lifting or moving materials between 50 – 100 lbs.

Working at heights may vary, as well as working with pieces of equipment that will provide protection at such heights (i.e. scaffolds, aerial man lifts, and personal fall protection).
