Overview of the Community Center Renovation
The Community Center Renovation and Expansion at Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania followed a year-long preconstruction process and COVID-19-related start delays. Once underway, the 20-month, multi-phase project included extensive demolition within the existing community center, renovations to current spaces, and a new addition. The completed building now provides a multitude of essential services and amenities for residents. Rather than a simple refresh, the work expanded the center around dining, performance, wellness, learning, and everyday gathering.
Community Center Renovation and Expansion Planning
Before construction began, the Community Center Renovation required preconstruction planning that could absorb schedule changes and support a long phased effort. Warfel’s preconstruction and construction management work helped move the project from delayed start conditions into active demolition, renovation, and expansion. Because the scope touched both existing and new spaces, each phase had to account for how future amenities would connect. That planning kept the resident-focused program central as the work moved through a 20-month, multi-phase schedule.
Dining, Performance, and Resident Amenities
The renovated and expanded community center now includes four different dining options for residents. The former multi-purpose space also became the creamery and bistro, adding a new daily-use destination within the building. The project also added a 200-seat auditorium designed to accommodate several performance types. Together, the dining spaces and auditorium give the center room for both everyday resident use and larger community events. Existing corridors received fresh finishes, helping older connections sit more naturally alongside the new and renovated areas.
Wellness, Learning, and Additional Amenities
The expansion introduced a new fitness center designed to enhance whole body wellness. An expanded library with a history studio adds another destination for learning, reflection, and connection within the building. These spaces build on the larger amenity program without repeating the dining and performance functions. Along with the renovated corridors and new addition, they help round out the community center’s expanded resident-focused offerings.
Project Completion and Multi-Phase Delivery
Despite COVID-19-related delays, Warfel carried the 20-month, multi-phase project through preconstruction, demolition, renovation, and new construction to deliver an expanded community center for Dunwoody Village residents. The completed work brings together dining, wellness, performance, learning, and gathering spaces within one updated resident-focused building.
