Crusader Stadium Continuing a 55-Year Tradition
For 55 years, Rossmere Stadium Athletic Complex has been a central part of Lancaster Catholic High School life. Generations of students, families, and alumni gathered there for graduations, field days, and football games. The Crusader Stadium project began with plans for new turf and upgraded lighting. However, a structural study found the existing bleachers were not sound, which changed the direction of the work. A Rebuilt Venue for Games and Gatherings
The reconstructed complex includes home and visitor bleachers with seating for 2,500 people. It also adds a 2,400-square-foot concessions building for games and campus events. A digital scoreboard, new sound system, and Musco LED computerized lighting bring more energy to the venue. Rebuilding from the Ground Up
The overhaul reached far below the finished playing surface. Crews removed the existing field, track, turf, lighting, concession building, and stands before reconstruction began. They also removed more than 100,000 cubic yards of unsuitable soil from the site. Because that preparation was so extensive, the work became more than a turf replacement. It required careful athletic complex reconstruction, steady sequencing, and attention to the ground beneath every future event.
Field Systems with Purpose
Once the site was ready, crews built the systems that help the field perform. The work included a complex under-field drainage system and a perimeter trench drain. Crews also installed approximately 24 inches of crushed stone before placing the finish-stone course. Using GPS data, the finish-stone course established the proper contour of the field. During reconstruction, the field rotated 180 degrees to a north/south orientation, keeping sun away from players’ sightlines.
