A Welcoming Janet Weis Children’s Hospital Lobby

The Janet Weis Children’s Hospital lobby renovation refreshed 17,243 square feet across five floors in Danville, Pennsylvania. Geisinger’s facility remained occupied throughout the 11 month project, continuing to care for young patients and their families. Because that care continued each day, every phase needed to respect the hospital’s active environment. Updated finishes and decorative tree branches brought warmth to spaces used by patients and families each day.

Improvements Across Five Floors

Across all five floors, the scope included ceiling replacements, new framing, bulkheads, and new flooring throughout. These improvements required careful sequencing because construction moved through an active healthcare setting. Meanwhile, Warfel coordinated each phase with Geisinger to protect safe access and maintain daily operations. The work balanced each planned improvement with safe access for patients, families, and daily hospital operations.

Phasing the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital Renovation

A strategic phasing plan guided the work throughout the 11 month schedule and helped minimize disruption. Warfel completed construction overnight, while patient traffic followed rerouted paths during the day. This approach kept progress moving without interrupting the hospital’s regular operations throughout each construction phase. In addition, ongoing communication with Geisinger aligned construction activities, access needs, and daily schedules across all five floors. Each phase responded to the building’s active use while keeping the project on schedule. Together, overnight work and daytime rerouting maintained a safe, accessible environment throughout construction.

Rebuilding the Lower Level 2 Gift Shop

A key milestone focused on the Lower Level 2 lobby and the existing gift shop. The area underwent complete architectural demolition before Warfel rebuilt and reframed the gift shop. New framing and bulkheads reshaped the space as part of the broader lobby improvements. In addition, ceiling, flooring, and finish updates continued through the surrounding area and across all five floors. Careful planning kept this detailed work connected to the larger phasing plan.

Completing Work in an Active Hospital

Throughout the 11 month Warfel worked closely with Geisinger to balance construction with the hospital’s daily responsibilities. That partnership kept the project on time while Geisinger continued serving patients each day. The completed renovation brought refreshed finishes, new architectural elements, and welcoming details across five floors. Most importantly, the work created a calmer setting for young patients and their families. The work reflected the care needed in a hospital serving children and families each day.
