Continuing a Trusted Partnership at Wappacomo Hall
After building a trusted relationship with Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury while completing the Villa Homes, Warfel was invited back for another renovation on campus. The Wappacomo Hall project focused on a 1,844 square foot dining room within the assisted living apartment wing. Located in Winchester, Virginia, the two month renovation refreshed the room’s layout, finishes, and appliances. Although smaller in scale, the work offered another opportunity to serve a familiar client through careful planning and execution. The scope centered on opening the adjoining office to the dining room and thoughtfully bringing both areas together through the renovation.
Opening the Existing Office to the Dining Room
The existing dining room connected to an office through a set of doors along the adjoining wall. Warfel removed the wall and doors, opening the former office to the surrounding space. This selective demolition created room for a small kitchenette and self-service snack area, along with new cabinets, countertops, and appliances. By bringing the two areas together, the revised layout made these new features feel like a natural part of the dining room.
Refreshing the Wappacomo Hall Dining Room
Beyond the layout changes, the work refreshed the entire dining room. New flooring, ceiling, trim, paint, and lighting updated finishes throughout the space. New countertops, cabinets, and appliances completed the kitchenette and helped define the self-service snack area. Together, these updates connected the former office area with the surrounding dining room. The full refresh also gave the kitchenette a natural place within the space. Each finish and fixture contributed to one coordinated renovation across the full room.
Coordinating the Two Month Schedule
Because the schedule lasted two months, the work required close coordination from demolition through final finishes. Selective demolition first prepared the former office for the kitchenette and snack area. Once that area opened, cabinetry, countertops, appliances, lighting, and finish work followed the revised layout. Throughout construction, Warfel kept each part of the scope connected to the room’s broader refresh. This approach carried the layout changes and finish updates forward within the established schedule. It also kept the new service area connected to the surrounding dining space.
Continuing the Relationship
The completed Wappacomo Hall dining room brings the refreshed dining area, kitchenette, and self-service snack space together in one welcoming setting. The renovation also reflects the trust developed through the Villa Homes and continued Warfel’s relationship with Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury. While modest in scale, the project offered another opportunity to serve a familiar client and thoughtfully improve an important space on campus.
