A complex undertaking with essentially 7 simultaneous phases, the Washington College project had Warfel demolish half of the existing theater complex, leaving the remaining theater completely exposed while rebuilding around and through the entire structure. The new Gibson Center features a 450 seat performance theater, a 175 seat intimate experimental theater, a 200 seat recital hall and a dance studio. The center also houses Washington College’s first dedicated art gallery, a 1,200 sf climate-controlled, securable space. This 73,000 sf project also provides 15,000 sf of classroom space, practice rooms, a design studio and a scene shop.
