Cotter Promoted to Vice President of Preconstruction & Estimating

Warfel Construction Company is pleased to announce the promotion of Sean Cotter, LEED GA to Vice President of Preconstruction & Estimating. In this new role, Cotter leads the Preconstruction & Estimating teams, initiating client engagement early in the project development process and setting projects on a path for success by providing input on cost, schedule, logistics, constructability and other key influencers. Cotter will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the Preconstruction & Estimating Department and ensuring a collaborative approach to leading projects through the design phase. He will also serve as a member of the company’s Executive Team.

Cotter joined Warfel in 2011 as a Project Estimator. He most recently served as Director of Preconstruction & Estimating.

Cotter graduated from Millersville University with a B.S. in Psychology and Harrisburg Area Community College with a B.S. in Estimating. He is a LEED (Leadership in Environmental Energy and Design) Green Associate.

Cotter lives in Lititz, PA with his wife Kristen and daughters Mackenzie and Payton.

National Intern Day: Meet our Summer 2019 Interns

Happy National Intern Day! At Warfel, we’re extremely proud of our internship program, which offers college students real-world construction management experience. Interns at Warfel are assigned to a project team, take on real project responsibilities, and contribute to their team’s success. Additionally, they spend two weeks in Warfel’s Preconstruction & Estimating department, as well as one week in the Virtual Design & Construction department, learning about the extensive planning that occurs before construction begins.

Audrey Shay

Audrey is spending her summer working on our Fulton Theatre project team. She studies Civil Engineering at Penn State Harrisburg, where she will be a junior this fall.

Benjamin Moore

Ben is working with our Virtual Design & Construction department this week and is spending his summer with members of the Barclay Friends project team. Ben graduated from Eastern University in May with a BA in Mathematics and will be attending Villanova University in the fall to pursue a master’s degree in Engineering.

Josh Weiner

Josh is a returning intern, back for his second summer at Warfel. He is currently working with the Acts Normandy Farms team. Josh will be returning to Temple University in the fall for his senior year, where he is pursuing a BS in Construction Management & Technology.

Julian Teller

Julian is spending his summer on-site at the Acadia Behavioral Health project. He is a senior at Temple University, majoring in Construction Management & Technology with a minor in psychology.

Liam Dooley

Liam is also returning for his second summer as a Warfel intern. He is working on the Centre Care project in State College, PA. Liam will be returning to Penn State University this fall to complete his BS in Civil Engineering.

Luke Whitenight

Luke is working with our Preconstruction & Estimating team this week, and is part of the 101NQ project team this summer. Luke is a senior at Pennsylvania College of Technology, pursuing a BS in Civil Engineering Technology.

Nick DiLemmo

Nick is spending his summer at the Rydal Waters cottage development project. He is a senior at Philadelphia University +Thomas Jefferson University, where he is pursuing a BS in Construction Management with a minor in Business Administration.

Rick Poillion

Rick spent last summer at Warfel working as a field laborer. This summer, he is working with our facilities team on a variety of small projects to serve clients. Rick will be returning to Pennsylvania College of Technology this fall to complete his BS in Construction Management.

Xaymary Caraballo

Xay is spending her summer at Franklin & Marshall College. She is a senior at Penn State Harrisburg, pursuing a BS in Civil Engineering.

Sean has been a key contributor to our estimating department, and his leadership will allow us to continue the momentum that has been built over the past several years.”

Women in Construction Week: Meet Bid Coordinator Karen Woods

In honor of Women In Construction Week, we’re highlighting female Warfel employees. The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics expects the available jobs in STEM fields to increase 17% by 2024, but only 18 – 19% of individuals receiving degrees in computer science, engineering, or physics are women. Check out our featured employee today (Bid Coordinator Karen Woods), and follow along all week as we learn more about the team members who make Warfel a leader in the construction management industry.

Describe what you do at Warfel:  I work with the estimating team to set up all the bids that come in, make sure that all documents are sent out to the subcontractors, and coordinate the proposal or hard bid going out to the client.

Where did you go to school? I graduated from Colby Sawyer College in New London, NH.

How long have you worked at Warfel? 1 year

What did you do before you came to Warfel? I was a Senior Administrator at Skanska USA Building, Inc.

What is your favorite part of your job?  I really enjoy interacting with the Estimating team.

What is the worst job you ever had?  Retail clerk at a Carvel ice cream store.

What is your most exciting accomplishment?  Moving successfully from MA to PA – and loving it!

What advice would you give someone applying to Warfel?  Be open and excited about the opportunity.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned in your career?  Listen – carefully.

What’s your favorite part of working in the construction industry?  The opportunity to work on a new project, daily, weekly or monthly.

What do you think is the most challenging part of the construction industry?  Keeping abreast of the continuing technology changes in the field.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?  Travel and gardening.

What’s a fun fact about you that we might not know?  My fiancé and I own a 1956 Ford Pickup.
