Warfel Construction Company today announced that its work on the Audi Devon New Flagship Terminal in Devon, Pennsylvania has earned the company a National Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) in the A1:Commercial $5 – $10 million category. Representatives from the company received the award March 2 during ABC’s 26th annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

“Warfel Construction Company earned this Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award through their dedication to safety, quality craftsmanship and teamwork and Associated Builders and Contractors is pleased to honor them,” said 2016 ABC National Chair David Chapin, president of Willmar Electric Service, Lincoln, Neb. “From start to finish, Warfel demonstrated a commitment to innovation and high quality construction in their work on Audi Devon, a commitment that is clearly evident in the finished product.”

The 43,000 square foot Audi Devon building is a prototype for Audi of America’s future stores in the Philadelphia market, featuring large expanses of an aluminum and glass curtain wall, specialty German tile flooring, and a curved, sloped wall meant to symbolize the Autobahn. As Construction Manager, Warfel was responsible for preconstruction coordination and project oversight, as well as design/build services for all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work. Warfel managed all structural, architectural, and MEP trades, and coordinated installation of all furniture, service equipment, and car wash equipment with separate Audi-specialized contractors.

The Excellence in Construction Awards program is the industry’s leading competition, developed to honor innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost. Eagle awards were presented to the highest scoring projects in each category with pyramid awards presented to the next highest scoring projects.

A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year’s panel included representatives from the Design-Build Institute of America, Engineering News-Record, Construction Users Roundtable, and the National Association of Women in Construction, and representatives from higher education, among others.

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC)is a national construction industry trade association representing nearly 21,000 chapter members. Founded on the merit shop philosophy, ABC and its 70 chapters help members develop people, win work and deliver that work safely, ethically, profitably and for the betterment of the communities in which ABC and its members work. Visit ABC online at abc.org
