Warfel Construction Company is pleased to partner with Acadia Healthcare, a mission-driven organization dedicated to an unparalleled commitment to their patients, on an expansion of their Southwood Psychiatric Hospital that will meet the growing need for high-quality mental health services that has emerged post-pandemic. Located in the outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Southwood Psychiatric specializes in behavioral healthcare for teens and adolescents, providing a wide variety of customized inpatient treatment options.
Currently in the preconstruction phase, the planned three-story addition will add 108 beds to the existing hospital and a wide variety of recreational options for patients, including a full track and basketball court.
The team is working through significant design changes to accommodate the condensed nature of the site, as well as working through a challenging permit approval process to ensure that construction can start on time.
Navigating the intricacies of today’s volatile market has proven to be an intensive process, especially for projects with extensive schedules and planned phasing to avoid disturbances to patients. Warfel’s preconstruction team, through close collaboration with the design team and owner, have identified necessary early release packages in need of approval in order to meet the intended construction timeframe and anticipated completion date.
The foundations for this project were built on Warfel’s strong Clients for Life relationship with Acadia Healthcare. In addition to the expansion at Southwood, Warfel is working on two additional behavioral health facilities, one in Moosic, Pennsylvania, and the other in New Castle, Delaware, for the healthcare provider.
