This five story, 52,000 sf office building was constructed at the highly visible corner of Second and State Streets in downtown Harrisburg – a block from the Capitol Building. LEED Gold certified (pending), the building is designed and constructed to be nearly 30% more efficient than a conventionally constructed similar structure. The building boasts a geothermal system designed like no other in the United States. It mirrors a concept utilized primarily in Europe that combines the foundation caissons with the geothermal loops. This creates a highly efficient HVAC system that allows some of the mechanical equipment to be smaller than typically required – a great benefit in a compact building. This project received Special Recognition – Project of the Year by the USGBC Central PA Chapter.
